New flagship hotel for the HR Group - Mövenpick Hotel Basel opened
Berlin / Basel, September 6, 2021 - With the opening of the newly built Mövenpick Hotel Basel on September 1, the Berlin based hotel operating company HR Group is increasing its portfolio and manifesting its expansion course.
The hotel, which is centrally located at the Basel SBB train station, has 264 rooms including 30 suites. The entire equipment of the hotel follows the motto "Timeless modern" and follows the vision and creation of the internationally known designer Matteo Thun. Guests, whether they are leisure or business travellers, can expect a mix of styles of elegant Swiss simplicity and timeless comfort. Warm colours and natural materials are consciously combined and staged. Along the Mövenpick tradition, the Mövenpick Hotel Basel also focuses on culinary delights. The offer is supplemented by 19 conference rooms including a ballroom, a spa area, a casual bar and a sun terrace.
“With the development of the hotel concept, we have succeeded in reinterpreting the legendary Mövenpick brand in a new and modern way,” says Markus Lewe Managing Director, CEO of the Logding Division of the HR Group. “The hotel represents the first hotel in the new generation of Mövenpick Hotels that we developed. A milestone for us and the Mövenpick brand alike. Here, excellence in all areas is combined in a contemporary way, whether in terms of equipment, location, offers or hosts."
As a franchisee, the HR Group now operates a total of 16 Mövenpick brand hotels in Central Europe as part of a strategic cooperation with Accor. There is a long-term agreement with the management.
“With this flagship project and the opening today, we are sending a positive and confident signal for the Basel hotel market, our partners and the entire industry. Things are looking up again and we are ready for more”, adds Markus Lewe.
The Swiss Reto Kocher is General Manager for the hotel. A friend in the city, he was already responsible for the Grand Hotel Le Trois Rois as General Manager. As Executive Chef, the Argentine Pablo Löhle is in charge of the culinary arts in the house. In the PURO restaurant with show kitchen, guests experience how Latin American specialties are combined with traditional Asian flavours and regional products to create a unique taste experience.
The Basel architectural office Miller & Maranta is responsible for the design of the building. It is part of the newly emerging Baloise Park, a project developed by the Baloise Group, one of the largest insurance service providers in Switzerland.
